Description

The Horizontal Ladder test is a motor and coordination assessment used to evaluate skilled walking in rodents, such as mice and rats. During the test, each step is recorded and categorized as correct paw placement, a slip, or a miss. To further assess fore and hind-limb coordination, individual rungs can be removed to examine how the rodent targets each rung.

Rodents are required to navigate a horizontal ladder with varying rung spacings. MazeEngineers’ horizontal ladder features removable rungs and is designed to clamp onto end plates, making it adaptable for either aversive or rewarded locomotion scenarios. The ladder’s transparent walls facilitate easy video recording with systems like Noldus EthoVision® XT or ANY-Maze.
